Cracking NEET Exams

Intro: Cracking NEET PG

Hi there !  In this Blog, I will try to cover all the aspects and problems that can come along while preparing for NEET PG.  I have divided this into 6 posts: 1 . Motivation: What after bad result ?? 2. Motivation: Drop Year 3. How To Utilize Coaching 4. Grand Tests: How and Why 5. Planning and Time Management 6. How to Retain Longer? Memory Boosting The tips and strategies are after a thorough observation and inputs from many of my teachers and Friends. Not only from those who have successfully cracked the exam in the very first attempt, but also, more importantly from those who couldn't until 2-3 attempts, and know exactly what can go wrong and what all NOT TO DO. Your rank would simply be decided on how many Qs you get right on the day of the exam. The examiner does not see the number of days you slogged, or the sacrifices you made or how many times you scored well in your practice/mock/proff exams. If you dont perform on "The Day", everything goes t...

How to Retain Longer? Memory Boosting

To recall all 19 subjects during stressful period of the exam, you need to have your notes at your fingertips. Here are some techniques I used that helped me: 1. Understand and Learn. At least wherever you can. There is already too much of factual knowledge to be mugged up. We can reduce that load by understanding the conceptual data. If you end up mugging up things which could have been understood, then at the end, you will end up gaining a huge pile of factual knowledge difficult to recall during the exam. Eg: Suture needed for vascular repair, closing abdominal sheath or mesh hernioplasty needs to be something which stays (ie non absorbable). And hence we prefer Prolene (Non absorbable synthetic suture) Eg: A common Q regarding efficacy of Penicillin  (a Beta-lactam = cell wall Inhibitor)  for different organisms. Now The organisms which lacks a proper cell wall would be resistant ie Mycoplasma, Rickettsia, Chlamydia. Eg: Acetylation causes DNA ...

Planning and Time Managment

Making a Study Plan !! A timetable merely mentions the time duration assigned to a particular subject whereas a study plan is more comprehensive. It also defines a methodology to deal with the preparation, planning and problems faced in each subject by an individual. A target should be set, items should be prioritized and an effective timetable should be drawn. Effective refers to a schedule that should be followed religiously with a determination to achieve progress and results. 1. Long term Plan I made a backward plan, that is starting from the Date of the NEET exam and going reverse.. 6th Jan 2019 NEET exam. 22nd Nov 2018   PGI exam. 15 Nov 2018 AIIMS exam. 14 October All India Mock Test/CBT. (Calculate the rough dates if exact ones are not known yet) So these were my basic milestones.   My goal was to give the CBT on 14th October with a perfect preparation. After that 1 month of revision (with AIIMS oriented study) and rectifying mistak...

How to Utilize Coaching ??

As explained in Intro, the main Goal for cracking NEET PG is: To be able to recall each and every page of notebooks of all 19 subjects during the stressful 3.5 hours of the main exam, that to as fast as possible. Coaching can help you in the following ways: Spoon feed you high yield notes. These notes consist of important topics asked in Last 10 years hence making them high yield. Making concise notes makes you capable enough to have knowledge of all 19 subjects, to be recalled during the exam. Practice regular tests   in a competitive environment. Helps you to practice high yield Qs and also know   your level among your competitors and how much more additional hard work needs to be put in. Nowadays, there is a plethora of information available in the market. Many institutes, many apps, individual subject apps, so many guide books.   Many people fall into a trap of buying/joining everything available in the market, and...

Grand Tests: How and Why.

Friends, to get a PG seat, you need a rank. To get a rank, you need to score well in the MCQ exam. You must have heard people say after the exam: "I wish I had one more chance. I did some silly mistakes." " Just make the exam happen again and I will do wonders." " Lets write a mail to NBE, we are not satisfied with the exam and want a re-exam" And the All Time Favorite: "I had a good preparation, did my theory well. But The exam didn't go that well. Give me another chance, fodh daalunga !!!" Friends, you don't get a second chance after the final race. But you get many of them, before the final race. Its called practicing. Giving a good MCQ exam involves lots of skills which is to be learnt gradually. Its not an overnight exercise which can be learnt one day before the final exam by watching a "How to score above 1000" Video. If you start giving Grand tests/Mock tests early, you will get many chances...
